Pembrokeshire Lamb is a small family business producing extremely high welfare animals, and you can taste the quality in each morsel. This is lamb as it’s supposed to be; rich, robust and melt-in-the-mouth tender. The Lamb Taster Box contains a lovely mix of cuts, including a half shoulder, a half leg, chops, cutlets and (our favourite item) a boned and rolled breast. The company also sell taster boxes of delicious mutton and hogget if you’re after something a bit different. The meat arrives frozen, so make sure you have space in the freezer!

Best known for their organic veg boxes, Abel & Cole also have a great selection of thoughtfully chosen meat and fish boxes bundles. Our pick is the Seasonal Meat & Fish Box, which contains two cuts of organic and free-range or sustainably wild meat, and one portion of sustainably-sourced fish. The farm’s Seasonal Vegetable Box (great value at £11 for a massive box) is filled with six varieties of fresh seasonal veg which will always include potatoes, plus the whatever else is at its best at the time of ordering. We tested the box in the middle of winter and were wowed by the taste and quality of ordinary staples like brocolli and cauliflower.
Wild & Game Monthly Game Meat Delivery Box, £49.99
We were blown away by the quality and quantity of meat in this box. It contains a recipe booklet and all the game you need to make seven delicious recipes that are matched to the seasons. It’s the perfect way to discover new favourite ways to enjoy this lean and sustainable meat and shake up your weekday repertoire a bit in the process. Everything in the box we tried was accessible with very useful cooking instructions, ranging from venison mince and partridge fillets to delicious pheasant and venison sausages.
