A lighter, more refreshing alternative to traditional mulled wine, this cocktail is a real winter warmer. The botanical notes of the gin work really well with the festive spices. This recipe serves one, so multiply the quantities depending on how many people you are serving. Perfect for a chilly evening!
50ml classic dry gin, such as Martin Miller's
100ml cloudy apple juice
2 tbsps honey
Equal parts cassia bark, whole cinnamon, cloves and star anise
Small pinch of chilli flakes
To garnish:
Cinnamon sticks
Orange zest or orange slices
Heat all the ingredients (apart from the garnishes) gently on the hob until aromatic (about five minutes).
Strain into a glass and serve with the orange zest and cinnamon stick, or with orange wedges if you prefer.
