Delicious strawberry gin with tonic water in a glass with ice is the perfect summer drink. All you need is a bottle of gin and some fresh strawberries.

Recipe provided by Love Fresh Berries
  • 450g strawberries
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 700ml bottle of good quality gin

Very roughly crush the sweet strawberries with a fork or potato masher. Spoon the strawberry mixture into a wide necked glass bottle or storage jar. Add the sugar then the gin, seal and give a gentle shake to mix.

Leave the jar at room temperature for 3 days, giving the container a gentle shake twice each day to make sure that the sugar dissolves.

Strain the strawberry gin through a mesh strainer, then decant into a clean, dry serving bottle. Seal well with a screw topped lid, cork or clip top. Decorate the bottle with a handwritten label tied on with ribbon or raffia.

There are plenty of ways to serve your strawberry gin. Serve in glasses with ice and tonic or add a splash to chilled sparkling white wine with a halved strawberry for a quick cocktail. Or, pour it into ice filled glasses and top with homemade lemonade . You could also use it to make a strawberry gin mojito (muddle mint leaves with lime juice and simple syrup, then add a shot of your gin and top with club soda.
