Considering the UK's love for fish and chips, it's hardly surprising there are now more than 10,000 fish and chip outlets around the country. But where in the UK can you actually find the
best fish and chips? Who really can determine which chippies are truly off the scale, and which pieces of fish are better left at the bottom of the net? Thankfully, the annual
National Fish and Chip Awards - essentially the Oscars of the fish and chip world - made the tough decision for us on Thursday evening at a star-studded and chip-filled ceremony at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel. Here are the results:
In first 'plaice'....
(Haxby, York, North Yorkshire)
This father-son duo prove that there is such a thing as a chip off the old block. After 'battering' off stiff competition from nine other UK regional winners (the process involved a rigorous, multi-stage judging process which took place over nine months), fourth generation family-run chippy Millers has been crowned proud champions of the best fish and chips in the UK. As well as serving up sustainable MSC certified fish, Millers also offer gluten-free and vegetarian options, and recently partnered with BrewDog for a pop-up night. Craft beer served alongside the best fish and chips in the UK? That's certainly a
catch made in heaven if you ask us.
