An array of the most flavoursome bottles English vineyards have to offer
Britain might not be well known for it’s wine culture, but English wine production is going from strength to strength. The warmer climate of the South East, in particular West Sussex, enables the growing of grapes for wine production. Here are some of the standout bottles from the English wine industry.
Ridgeview Bloomsbury
An award-winning blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with tasting notes of peach, citrus and honey. This truly special tipple was the official wine served for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Bolney Wine Estate Pinot Noir
Bolney is one of the longest established English vineyards and the team have recently launched their new vintages, which are some of their most impressive to date! The Pinot Noir is a real highlight – light and juicy with soft tannins and red cherries on the palate.
Lyme Bay Sandbar
Made from flavoursome Bacchus grapes, this light-to-medium bodied wine has a fresh and zesty taste with enticing elements of grapefruit, guava and blackcurrant. It has racked up a number of awards including the Silver title for the Independent Wine Awards 2017.
Aldwick Court Farm Jubilate Quintessentially English Brut
Perfect for a celebratory brunch, this sparkling wine has aromas of conference pear and hints of toast. It pairs excellently with eggs florentine and smoked salmon. A real treat for the taste buds!
Hattingley Valley Classic Reserve
Pale gold in colour with an abundance of fine bubbles, Hattingley Valley’s sparkling white has vibrant baked apple and brioche notes on the nose, with notes of soft lemon sherbet on the palate. Irresistible.
The Exquisite Collection Lyme Block
Crafted in South Devon at Lyme Bay Winery, this dry white wine styles itself around England’s signature grape, Bacchus. Characteristically high in acidity whilst balanced by Pinot Blanc, its notes of crisp green apple, lime zest, and melon make for a mouth-watering finish. A delicious sparkling wine.
Chapel Down Sparkling Bacchus
If you’re thinking of getting prosecco, but want something a bit classier, try Chapel Down Sparkling Bacchus 2018 - one of our favourite English sparklings. It is characterised by aromas of pineapple, grapefruit and elderflower and the palate is both tropical and floral with a crisp texture and a refreshing finish.
Brightwell Vineyard Pinot Noir
If you thought that the UK couldn’t produce great-tasting red wines then think again! This delightful Pinot Noir has been gently matured in oak barrels to concentrate its flavours of cherry and ripe fruits. Perfect with a decadent cheese board!
Stopham Estate Pinot Gris 2018
Wine producer Stopham Vineyard has produced a refreshing Pinot Gris, which is off-dry with aromatic floral and pear notes and a lively citrus and stone fruit finish.
